"Joe Pfeifer ... American Singer, Songwriter"
I was born, appropriately, on Halloween in Jersey City, New Jersey sometime during the late forties just so I could get this baby boomer thing off to a scary start.
From my bedroom window I could see the Empire State Building and imagined all the excitement going on across the river in swinging Manhattan.
I began singing acappella with my friends while still in grade school.
Songs like "In the Still of the Night", "There’s a Moon out Tonight", and "Barbara Ann" stand out in my memory. We graduated to a percussion band inspired by Michael Olatunji and we all picked up percussion instruments; congo drums, bongos, cowbells and annoyed the neighborhood to no end.
The major lightening strike came when I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I purchased my first drum kit on music row in Manhattan. Living in a small town in South Jersey at the time I was asked to join a band. We called ourselves "The Rogues" and played school functions, teen clubs and local gigs around the South Jersey/Philadelphia area.
Since then I've been in various bands: "Adam" and "Country Funk" come to mind. We made a few records and had a hellava good time making music, friends, gaining experiences and traveling all over the country. I left the music biz in the early 70’s, got a job and began raising a family.
